Referendum was held April 9, 2013. The referendum did not pass.

Over the past 20+ years, the District has renovated and/or renewed all of the schools across the District based on need--except for Jefferson Early Childhood Center (ECC). Jefferson ECC offers an exceptional educational experience and critical support services to the community’s youngest and most vulnerable learners. Two-thirds of the students who attend Jefferson have an identified disability or special need.

Every school district in America is required, by law, to provide early childhood education programs and services to students with disabilities, beginning after the child's third birthday.

High quality early childhood education programs can reduce, and in some cases, eliminate the need for future special education services. This type of early intervention for students greatly improves their quality of life, educational success, and ultimately reduces long term educational and social costs to our society.

Why is a new Jefferson ECC needed?

  1. The current Jefferson facility has been out-grown. It poses safety issues, accessibility issues and space limitations. This means insufficient instructional spaces for students, reduced privacy for topic-sensitive meetings, and physical areas in the building that are not as safe as they should be for children.

  2. Building an updated facility that provides the least restrictive educational environment for our children also helps maintain and enhance our community's standards of an exemplary, student-focused school district. The continued quality of our local schools is an important consideration for anyone who is moving to a new location. An investment in quality schools can attract new businesses and improve property values, which benefits all homeowners.

  3. Building a facility that allows the centralization of our youngest children, over the years to come, will result in greater benefits to student achievement as well as reduced costs, compared to breaking up children into multiple schools and duplicating resources.
